Fall horseback ride Recreation & Outdoors

Flagstaff is a year-round playground with stunning scenery and unique opportunities to experience the outdoors. With different adventures around every corner, you can choose the activity that best suits your travel desires. Hiking and biking are the most popular ways to travel through the San Francisco Peaks with trails available for all skill levels. When exploring the backcountry remember to bring plenty of water, snacks, a trail map, and sunscreen.

Some favorite trails include exploring an ancient underground tunnel at the Lava River Cave, hiking to the highest point in Arizona via the Kachina Trail, or simply enjoying a stroll at Buffalo Park. To find trails for all levels of mountain bikers, head to the Shultz Pass trailhead off of Elden Lookout Road. This trail network winds through and connects with a majority of the single track offerings in the area.

For a few hours of fun with friends and family, visit one of Flagstaff’s four disc golf courses. Each one offers different challenges that wind through the Ponderosa pines with incredible views. For extreme adventure head to Fort Tuthill County Park to try your hand at Flagstaff Extreme Adventure, a unique tree-top obstacle course. Each hurdle is suspended 15 to 45 feet above the ground, with increasing difficulty as you work your way through.
