ECOTOURISM - FLAGSTAFF
Looking for eco-friendly and responsible travel vacations with memory-making experiences and adventure? Visitors, subject experts and media have recognized Flagstaff as the destination offering the cleanest crisp mountain air within the world’s largest contiguous Ponderosa pine forest and the world’s first international dark sky city.
At 7,000’, there is an expectation for responsible use of the epic beauty surrounding this mountain and college town offering an abundance of social and green tourism opportunities.
“Flagstaff is an ideal destination for eco-tourism. We take pride in our natural environment and activities that support and sustain it. The city has made great progress in identifying and working to meet our sustainability goals and those apply to tourism, too. From our earned designation as a “Bicycle Friendly Community” to being named one of “the darkest, quietest and cleanest places on Earth,” we are excited to expand the city’s eco-tourism offerings for our visitors and residents alike.” Mayor Coral Evans
The City of Flagstaff has been named one of five national winners in the 6th Annual Wyland National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation by pledging to reduce their water use by 82.3 million gallons of water. Residents made nearly 16-thousand pledges to cut water use by over 82-million gallons as part of the competition. The annual month-long public awareness campaign promoted drought resiliency and water quality. Mayors from 38 states vied for the top spot. Flagstaff Mayor Coral Evans said, “I am thrilled our city won. We have made a commitment to save water with our pledges during Water Awareness Month and the entire year.” flagstaff.az.gov/3817/Water-Wise-Business-Program
