Non-Fungible Token Partnership with Flagstaff Dark Skies Coalition

Who

To further amplify Flagstaff and its enviable position as the world’s first Dark Sky City, Discover Flagstaff has teamed with non-profit Flagstaff Dark Skies Coalition, to offer a non-fungible token (NFT) photo collection named “A Night in Flagstaff.”

Why

Flagstaff was officially designated as the world’s first Dark Sky City on October 24, 2001 for its pioneering work balancing preservation of the night sky’s natural resource. Flagstaff night skies have been measured as less than 1/10 as bright from light pollution as other towns of similar size. Since then, Flagstaff continues to receive worldwide recognition for innovative leadership in the protection of dark skies as well as community-wide support from groups and businesses in the arts and sciences sectors, attractions, restaurants, retailers and more.

What

A Night in Flagstaff – There are a total of 70 NFTs in the collection and each NFT will be minted containing a one-of-a-kind moment-in-time capturing the star-filled skies over Flagstaff’s Buffalo Park (latitude +35°.220, longitude -111°.632, elevation 7123 feet), a location less than two miles from City Hall.

Each image is a 20-second exposure, the first taken beginning at 19:53 February 5, 2022 Mountain Standard Time (02:53 February 6, 2022 Universal Time), the last beginning at 21:02 MST (04:02 UT). The view is toward the North Northwest, including the iconic skyline of the San Francisco Peaks, the highest point in the State of Arizona at 12,637 feet above sea level.

In total, we will offer 70 NFT images, $700.00/each, at 7,000’.

How

Steps for purchasing an NFT

1. Create a digital wallet (If you already have a digital wallet, skip to step 2)

You can create a digital wallet with numerous companies. Metamask is an example of one wallet that is easy to create. Simply download Metamask from the following link: https://metamask.io/download/

After downloading, follow the instructions to complete the creation of your wallet.

Need more help? Here is a link to a short video on setting up a Metamask wallet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNPz-Dv5BjM

2. Link your wallet to Opensea.

Navigate to https://opensea.io/ and click on the wallet icon in the upper right corner. Then click on your wallet provider. If you followed step 1, the wallet provider will be Metamask. Accept permissions, and you will create an account on Opensea.

3. You can now navigate to https://opensea.io/collection/night-in-flagstaff, and bid on NFTs. You may need to add funds to your wallet. If you are using Metamask, you can add funds using a debit card, Apple pay, or more. More information can be found here: https://metamask.io/faqs/

To celebrate, promote, and protect the glorious dark skies of Flagstaff and Northern Arizona.
