THE IMAGINARY INVALID** by Molière, translated by Miles Malleson**
Directed by Kathleen M. McGeever Molière was a comic genius fully transforming the ancient theatrical form, Commedia dell’ Arte for the traditional stage. His satiric commentary on the foibles of society stung with a laugh. \"The Imaginary Invalid\" tells the tale of Argan, a self-absorbed hypochondriac with miserly tendencies. The high cost of medicine has Argan over a barrel, and to feed his obsession with illness, he devises a scheme to marry his daughter to a doctor. The household is in an uproar and mayhem ensues. The Imaginary Invalid is the last play Molière ever wrote opening on Feb. 10, 1673, at the Palais Royal Theatre with Molière as the title character. Ironically, Molière was gravely ill at the time the play opened collapsing in the middle of the fourth performance and dying an hour later. #CALisTheatre #Moliere
