Come join park rangers and members of the Flagstaff Dark Skies Coalition for a night of stargazing and telescope viewing at Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument.
The event will take place at the Lava Flow Trailhead amphitheater, which is 1.5 miles east from the Sunset Crater Volcano Visitor Center. For your safety, please be careful while parking and walking to the amphitheater. Orange and red lights will be set up along sidewalks directing visitors to the amphitheater and bathrooms. The parking lot will be open during this event. Event Schedule: 7:30 - 8:00 - Ranger Program - How can you help protect dark skies where you live? 8:00 - 10:00 - Independent Telescope Viewing with FDSC volunteers. 8:15 - 8:45 - Ranger presentation Celestial Celebrities on the Big Screen with a smart telescope projected on a screen. 9:00 - 9:30 - Arabian Constellations and Star Tour with Danielle Adams with FDSC. What to bring: Please bring layers, as nighttime temperatures may may be cold. If bringing a light source, please use red lights to help preserve everyone's night vision. Please bring water and snacks to stay hydrated and fueled for the event.
