Join us for Dia de Muertos Week, October 28 - November 1.
Check out the exhibition in Author Roo of the Cline library on the first floor. The exhibit will include an altar dedicated to the Dia de Muertos, built by Dr. Anabel Galindo and Dr. Pedro Gonzalez Corona.
We will have a table dedicated to Calaveritas—poems called little skulls, not to be confused with the candy skulls—these are traditional Satirical social and political poems. Flower Making Workshop Tuesday | October 29 | 4 PM | Authors Room First Floor of Cline Library with Dr. Anabel Galindo (CCS). Dr. Galindo will guide students on how to make flowers as traditional ofrendas. Mexican-style Hot Chocolate and sweet bread will be served! Stamping Calaveritas Workshop Wednesday | October 30 | 5 PM | Authors Room First Floor of Cline Library Dr. Iuri Bauer Pereira, and Dr. Marco Cabrera Geserick will lead us as we learn about the tradition of the Calaveritas as social and political commentary. Then we will use stamps that were made by the students in Pereira's LAS 101 course to decorate Calaveritas written by other LAS students. We will also be encouraged to write our own Calaveritas, but no pressure. Mexican-style Hot Chocolate and sweet bread will be served to attendees and visitors.
