Arizona Cardinals NFL Training Camp
Each year, thousands of Arizona Cardinals fans flock to Flagstaff to see the team take the field to train at Northern Arizona University. SI.com sports analyst Peter King ranked the Cardinals training camp third in his article "My top five training camps: Places to get up close and personal with NFL." Si.Com is the online magazine for Sports Illustrated.
Surrounded by towering pine trees, the three practice fields are situated at about 7,000 feet, with breathtaking views of the San Francisco Peaks in the distance. Players and fans enjoy temperatures in the upper 70s and low 80s, a welcome relief from the Valley's 110-plus degree heat in July and August.
"Training camp is such a pivotal part of the NFL season," said Cardinals VP / Football Operations Rod Graves. "In Flagstaff and at NAU, we're fortunate to have such an outstanding atmosphere to prepare. The facilities, the setting, and the reception we get from the entire community are all exceptional. We're looking forward to the 2007 training camp and getting started on what will be an extremely exciting season."
If a summertime shower descends, practice easily shifts indoors to NAU's 14,000-seat Walkup Skydome, where the Cardinals annual intra-squad scrimmage takes place.
