News from the CVB
Vision Flagstaff is an online forum where you help shape our city. It is an outreach tool developed and managed by the City of Flagstaff's Community Design and Redevelopment team; with the goal of making an already great city even better. Vision Flagstaff is where you as a citizen or stakeholder suggest an idea and then lobby for it by getting other stakeholders to 'like' it and 'comment' about it on the site. Ideas should include anything related to beautification, landscaping, historic preservation and interpretation, public art, community design and redevelopment. The CVB encourages you to visit the website and share ideas. www.visionflagstaff.com

Flagstaff honored with two Arizona Governor's Tourism Awards
Govenors Tourism Award
Flagstaff’s tourism industry was recognized with both the Innovative Promotions and Employee of the Year awards at the Arizona Governor’s Tourism Awards, held in conjunction with the Arizona Governor’s Conference on Tourism.
Arizona Governor Jan Brewer presented the awards during a luncheon on Tuesday, July 13 at the Loews Ventana Canyon Resort in Tucson, Ariz. This annual awards program honors the best programs, events and people in Arizona’s tourism industry.
The Flagstaff Convention & Visitors Bureau (FCVB) received the Innovative Promotions award for the 2009 Flagstaff Tourism Stimulus. This program was initiated in early 2009 when the Flagstaff City Council set aside $250,000 for tourism marketing in order to stimulate that portion of the economy. The Flagstaff Tourism Stimulus was a tremendous success and tourism indicators that had been faltering started stabilizing, and Flagstaff’s lodging performance and tourism tax collections far outpaced the rest of the state during the stimulus program. In addition, Flagstaff became a model for Arizona’s tourism industry, proving that an investment in tourism is an investment in a community’s economic health.
- Spirit of Service Award
In addition to the Innovative Promotions award, one of Flagstaff’s most well-known service industry employees was recognized with the Spirit of Service award. Reuben Stoller, tepanyaki chef at the Radisson Woodlands Hotel’s Sakura restaurant, has made a name for himself in his chosen craft and is the most requested chef at Sakura. The Radisson receives dozens of compliments about Reuben’s “performance” and he has become a Flagstaff institution. Reuben was honored with a similar award at last year’s Flagstaff Tourism Awards celebration.
